Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies has its roots with the Turkestan Institute of Oriental Studies which was founded in 1918. The institute teaches in a range of languages including Arabic, Persian, Uzbek, German and Tajik.
After much transformation the institute was granted university status in 2020.
The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in a wide variety of subject areas which include history, journalism, and translation theory. During their undergraduate studies, students at the university will be taught in at least one Asian and one Western language.
To assist students with gaining employment after university, Tashkent State has a range of partner organisations which have become the main employers of its graduates. These organisations include the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, the Institute of History at the Academy of Sciences, as well as the State Museum of Uzbekistan.
