About

Basic information and contact details for National Veterinary School of Alfort (EnvA)

institution

The National Veterinary School of Alfort (EnvA) is France’s longest-established veterinary school. It has been located in the same place, on a 12 hectare site at Chateau d’Alfort on the edge of Paris, since its foundation in 1766.

It is one of four national veterinary schools who operate a common curriculum - with others in Nantes, Lyon and Toulouse - ENVA belongs to a network of 12 public schools of agronomy, veterinary science and forestry.

There is also an equine campus in Normandy. The Alfort site is shared with the National Food Safety and Health Agency and 2022 with the National Forestry Office.

Students take a six-year course including a common core from the second to fifth years and in-depth specialisation in the final year. They work in the EnvA hospitals which each year expect to treat 35,000 pets, 7,000 wild animals (85 per cent of them birds), 2,500 horses and 300 farm animals on site, plus a further 1,500 livestock on farm visits.
