About Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University

Founded in 1887, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University is the oldest Buddhist university in Thailand. It was founded by King Chulalongkorn as Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya Royal College. In 1997 the college was granted full university status and was renamed Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University.

The university operates across 11 campuses: Nong Khai Campus, Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus, Chiang Mai Campus, Khon Kaen Campus, Nakhon Ratchasim Campus, Ubon Ratchathani Campus, Phrae Campus, Surin Campus, Phayao Campus, Pali Sueksa Buddhagosa Campus, and Nakhon Sawan Campus.

Academically, the university is organised into four faculties: faculty of Buddhism, faculty of education, faculty of humanities and faculty of social sciences. Each faculty is divided into different departments which offer a range of undergraduate degree programmes.

There is also the graduate school which provides further education for students looking to continue their studies within a specialised area. The school offers courses at both master’s and doctoral level.

The International Buddhist Studies College is a branch of the graduate school that provides students with the opportunity to pursue research in Buddhist studies. The college offers master’s degree programmes in four main subject areas: Buddhist studies, philosophy, Dhamma communication and Pāli.

There are various clubs, societies and organisations on offer for students to join, whether competitively or on a more recreational basis. The Student Activities Division is responsible for overseeing these clubs, as well as organising different academic and cultural events throughout the year.
