Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology is a postgraduate university in the city of Nomi in Ishikawa Prefecture, to the south of Kanazawa City.

The university was established in 1990, in the centre of Ishikawa Science Park, to offer students a selection of programs for advanced research and development in science and technology. Today the university has multiple satellite campuses across Shinagawa and Tokyo and satellite lectures in Kanazawa City and Toyama City.

There are several research departments including the Graduate School of Information Science, the Graduate School of Materials Science and the Graduate School of Knowledge Science. There are nine core research areas on offer which include: human life design area, knowledge management, security and networks, intelligence robotics, entertainment technology, energy and environment, materials chemistry, applied physics and bio-science and biotechnology.

Each school offers MSc programmes, which typically take two to three years to complete. There are also PhD programmes on offer which take three years.

There are plenty of facilities on site including eight student accommodation blocks along with a cafeteria offering a seasonal menu. Students at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology can also take part in the borrowing scheme, in which a variety of items can be borrowed from the student welfare section in the Student Affairs Department. This includes a range of equipment like camping equipment including tents and sports equipment including snowboarding kit, mountain hiking gear and digital tools like camcorders.
