About Alberta University of the Arts

The Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is a public university of art and design located in Calgary, Alberta. Formerly known as the Alberta College of Art and Design, the institution dates back to the founding of the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (PITA) in 1916.

It is Alberta's only dedicated art, craft and design institution and has some of the best and biggest arts facilities in Canada, with each of its shared studios supervised by skilled professionals.

The school values small class sizes, and its fees are among the least expensive of Canada’s art and design colleges.

Alberta University of the Arts students can choose from a range of undergraduate and postgraduate study options. There are 11 areas of study available and the flexibility to work across disciplines, including media arts, glass, sculpture, painting and more. The college focusses less on classroom-based theory, encouraging students to gain practical experience in their work.

The institution’s well-established visiting artist programme brings some of the world’s top creative minds to campus to speak and conduct workshops. Notable alumni include singer Joni Mitchell.

Calgary is close to mountain parks and is full of arts and culture venues and events.
