Hell hath no fury like a professional deprofessionalised by ambitious, managerial, neoliberal, corporate, robotic order-followers ( “Hell hath no fury like an ?academic suspended” , Opinion, 8 February). Yes the bitten bite back, but do the public actually care? I think not. And so the tyranny of rules and new target-setting continues. This is how corporations work, and our universities are corporations now. There is a new phenomenon whereby many aggrieved academics sincerely feel that they have lost their profession and now just have jobs. How that will play out remains to be seen.
