An exhibition reunited some of the treasures of Hyde Abbey. The items were dispersed in 1539 in the wake of Henry VIII's decision to dissolve the monasteries and the subsequent destruction of the abbey's buildings.
A second exhibition, titled Re-imagining Treasures of Hyde Abbey, afforded local artists and craftspeople the opportunity to offer their own responses.
Host was created by Kate Harding, who often uses ordinary and overlooked materials in her artworks. In this case, she developed a technique to preserve the bread "tiles" - meant to symbolise both the literal and the spiritual food of the Hyde Abbey monks - and print on to them.
The complete mosaic, 12ft high and 10ft wide, forms an image of an oak tree under which the gospel was preached. It has now found a permanent home at the University of Winchester.
