No Rum cover-up

July 30, 1999

I read with sadness about John Heslop Harrison. I was living on Rum in the early 1940s when he visited the island. Discovering my interest in natural history, although I was only five or so, he encouraged me in the collection of specimens and rearing insects. He was at least partly responsible for my continued interest in the subject and subsequent academic career. I am grateful to him and will always regard him with respect and thanks.
