(Photograph) - New sky line: Lincoln University welcomes its first students this week, writes Chris Johnston. The project is the first purpose-built city-centre campus in Britain in 25 years. Public and private bodies raised the Pounds 32 million to build the campus on disused railway land in Lincolnshire.
The University Project Company first worked with Nottingham Trent University but when, after three years, it was asked to reduce the project's size it linked with Humberside to become the University of Lincoln and Humberside. The 500 students start lectures on Monday, ahead of the official opening by The Queen on October 11. More than 2,000 full-time undergraduates are expected by 2000.
