Britain’s share of papers indexed falls

Great Britain and the US are losing their world share of papers published on the citation database Web of Science to emerging economies, according to a report of research metrics published by Thomson Reuters

In nine years, Great Britain’s share of papers fell by 1 percentage point, and the US’ dropped by 5 percentage points. At the same time, the world share of papers produced in China leaped 8 percentage points, and in India increased 1 percentage point.

The report, The Research and Innovation Performance of the G20, found that the world share of papers from France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia also fell between 2003 and 2012.

Australia, Brazil and Turkey saw an upturn in world share of papers during the same period, according to the report published on 10 April.
