The ÖйúAƬ Policy Institute (Hepi) was established in November 2002 with the aim to ensure as far as possible that ÖйúAƬ policy development in the UK is informed by research and by knowledge of the experience of others. Our role is:

* To identify important policy issues in ÖйúAƬ - both immediate and long term

* To identify research and experience relevant to these issues, both in this country and overseas

* To identify further research needed to illuminate those issues, to facilitate that research or to undertake research and policy analysis ourselves and, most important,

ÖйúAƬ

* By publishing reports, by arranging seminars and conferences and by other means, to alert policymakers, as well as those who influence policy and the wider public, to the issues, to current experience and to relevant research.

In the past two years, we have published more than a dozen reports and run more than 20 conferences and seminars - some open and some closed. Hepi has become an authoritative source and has been extensively quoted in the media and by policymakers, political leaders, parliamentary committees and others.

Our most recent study was of the implications of developments in credit accumulation and transfer, particularly in the context of greater European integration, and works in progress includes studies of human resource management in ÖйúAƬ, the realistic future for the use of information and communication technology in ÖйúAƬ, and issues connected with brain drain and brain gain.

All our reports and seminar papers are published on our website - Our aim is to disseminate freely all the work that we ourselves do or commission.

For this reason we are delighted to partner The Times Higher in this project, sponsored by Beachcroft Wansbroughs, which is intended to shed light on the extent and nature of postgraduate education and to highlight some of the resulting policy implications.
