Our monthly guide to some of the conferences taking place around the world

Robin Lane Fox, reader in ancient history at Oxford University, will talk about his experiences of advising on Oliver Stone's film Alexander the Great at the Classical Association's annual conference . There will also be two panels on Alexander and another on aspects of the classics in the cinema. April 1-4, Reading University.

The British Society of Animal Science's annual meeting features papers on breeding for health, farm animals and biodiversity and the microbial ecology of the gut. April 4-6, York University.

60 Years on: How the Holocaust Looks Now is an international conference organised by Leicester University. It includes papers on family recollections of the Holocaust in Europe and testimonies of survivors in the US. April 10-14, Leicester University.
 

Cultures of Violence, the fourth York Cultural History conference , looks at interpersonal violence below the level of the state from classical antiquity to the 21st century. April 21-23, York University.

Fashion's World Cities is an "international conference on the connections between fashion cultures and the modern metropolis". It coincides with The London Look: Fashion from Street to Catwalk exhibition at the Museum of London. April 29-30, London College of Fashion.
