BRITTANY

Hello Maureen!

Yes, it's Julie Samson. Bet you didn't expect to hear from me so soon after degree day!

Both mum and dad came in the end and dad said it was one of the proudest days of his life, but it was all so fast that he didn't have time to get a proper picture of me when I walked across the stage and got half of the next person as well (Roger Simpson).

Anyway, I'm on holiday now in Brittany with Sally and Lucy (both from history), and the reason that I'm writing is that my special parchment degree certificate arrived at home the day before I left and it's all properly done in that special copperplate writing as promised but the trouble is that my name has got a "p" in it - Julie Sampson. Dad said: "You'd expect better workmanship for 50 quid." Could you arrange for it to be done again without the "p" and tell me where to send it?

I'm sorry for the trouble but I want to put it on the wall. Hope you had a good holiday yourself in Scarborough and are getting ready for the grindstone.

All the best

Julie Samson (no 'P')

P.S. For your eyes only - you were quite right about Dr Quintock having "an eye for the mothers". You'd think someone in his position would know better.
