Does Tim Luckhurst take a pessimistic view of the future of print journalism in the world of blogging, tweeting and people's vastly expanded ability to comment online untrammelled by restrictions? Well, up to a point, Lord Copper. The appearance of new technologies, particularly ones as freely available as the smartphone, is bound to change the ways people read things. But as with the successful launch of The Independent's i, which aims to cover news and comment concisely, my guess is that before long there will be a return to an appreciation that editors do have a real purpose - to edit.
