"Universal lesson to be learned" rightly concludes that "there is no ignoring the fact that the qualifications of those who teach matter at all levels of education". However, becoming a skilled teacher is not simply about acquiring formal qualifications. The qualities that a good teacher needs are likely to develop over time, requiring detailed reflection on one's methods with both students and colleagues. In short, becoming an effective teacher should be seen as a long-term process. Only on retirement should this process end.
