Your report "Overseas numbers plummet" (News, 30 April) and the New Zealand Herald story on which it is based are wrong to suggest that New Zealand's universities are "losing" foreign students. A few years ago, Chinese student numbers rose and fell dramatically. What we are seeing now is the bulge in numbers working its way through the system. Enrolments are rising steadily and, certainly at the University of Auckland, in line with forecasts. Although your report implies the opposite, it is possible to have a slight decline in total international numbers, but an increase in new enrolments.
