Thirty-three new fellows are elected to the British Academy (Glittering prizes, THES , July 6). Of these, 28 (85 per cent) are male and 26 (79 per cent) are from the "golden triangle" of Oxford, Cambridge and London. None is from Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Is this truly representative of academic excellence in Britain? If so, it is depressing reading.
