No one at the Royal College of Physicians has ever said that fewer women or more men should go into medicine because it is incompatible with family life (News, THES , April 19). Our reports on women in medicine (June 2001) and consultant careers (April 2002) say that it is the National Health Service and medical training that should change to enable more flexible training for doctors - male or female.
