I am pleased to see academics of other disciplines defending biological sciences against the pseudo-scientific arguments of creationists (Letters, THES April 5).
As well as attacking the scientific method in general, creationism inherently opposes the many branches of science that attest to the enormous age of the universe and of this planet. The teachings of all subjects allied to astronomy - particularly cosmology and astrophysics - and those associated with the earth sciences - including geology, geophysics, geomorphology and palaeontology - are in direct contradiction to creationism.
Even if evolutionary theory were replaced by one that better accommodated the scientific evidence, the strength of rational arguments against creationism would be unaffected.
