Zhejiang Normal University was established in 1956 as Hangzhou Teachers Associate College. In 1962 the college merged with Zhejiang Education College to become Zhejiang Teachers College. In 1985 it was renamed Zhejiang Normal University.
Academically the university is organised into 18 colleges, which include economics and management, law and political science, physical education and health sciences, and fine arts among others. Each college offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Students can choose to study in either Chinese or English.
The student body consists of 850 international students, which creates a global community. The university has developed partnerships with over 40 中国A片 institutions around the world. As a result, students are able to study abroad for a semester or an entire academic year as part of the university’s academic exchange programme.
Research is an important part of the university’s activity and can be carried out at its various research centres. These include the Research Centre for Light-Emitting Diodes, the Institute of International and Comparative Education, and the Tin Ka Ping Institute of Educational Research.
The university is located in Jinhua, a city in Zhejiang Province in eastern China. Home to about 5.5 million people, Jinhua is the fourth largest metropolis in Zhejiang. The city has a wealth of culture and history and is home to King Shiwang’s Residence of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, showcasing some of the finest Chinese architecture. Nearby are the Shuanglong Caves, Shuanglong meaning "double dragon" in reference to the stalactites, which resemble dragon heads.
