The Mariano Marcos State University was established in 1976 as a result of the merger of the Mariano Marcos Memorial College of Science and Technology and the Northern Luzon State College in Laoag City.
The university’s main campus is located in Batac, a city in the Ilocos Norte Province, Philippines.
The university also has campuses in Laoag City and in the towns of Currimao and Dingras.
There are 10 colleges within the university: law, medicine, agriculture, food and sustainable development, aquatic sciences and applied technology, arts and sciences, business, economics and accountancy, engineering, health sciences, industrial technology, and teacher education. Each college is organised into different departments which offer a range of undergraduate degree programmes.
There is also the graduate school which began as the graduate programme of the Northern Luzon Teachers College in 1963. In 1981 it was officially established as a separate academic unit of the Mariano Marcos State University and has since been offering various degree programmes at both master’s and doctoral level.
Outside the classroom, students are encouraged to participate in the university’s extracurricular activities. There are a range of clubs and societies on offer for students to join including basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton, chess, swimming and taekwondo.
