Cedarville University is a independent Baptist school with has carried a strong Christian ethos dating back to its founding in 1887. The university is based in the town of the same name, located in southwestern Ohio and with a population of around 4000. The motto of the university translates as ‘for the Crown and Covenant of Christ’.
While many universities in the United States are affiliated with churches or were founded by religious figures, Christianity suffuses every aspect of teaching and life at Cedarville. Scientific research and study are taught from a Creationist perspective, and a Bible study minor is a mandatory aspect of every course taught at the university.
There are seventeen schools offering 111 areas of study for students. As well as undergraduate and graduate programmes, the faculty of Education offers a Teaching English as a Second Language endorsement. The Liberal Arts BA offers an interdisciplinary approach to a student’s education, offering courses across math, science, history and political science. The Biblical and Theological Studies faculty contains a BA in biblical studies, a master of divinity course and a one year Bible programme.
The athletics teams of Cedarville are known as the Yellow Jackets with the wasp also acting as a logo, and play in the university colours of yellow and gold. Since 2012 Cedarville has competed in the NCAA Division II in sports including basketball, soccer, and cross country, in both men’s and women’s teams.
The International Student Services provides valuable support and information for overseas students who would like to study at Cedarville, such as visa support and help finding accommodation. There will also be a one credit foundation course designed to help students settle and write in academic English.
