Bishop's University (or Université Bishop's) is a small liberal arts college in Lennoxville, which is a borough of Sherbrooke in Quebec, Canada.
Its history can be traced back to 1843, when it was established by the Bishop of Quebec, The Right Reverence Dr George Mountain, who also served as the first principal of McGill University.
It is one of Canada's few primarily undergraduate universities and is modelled on an American liberal arts college. The classes are small and students will have regular check ins with professors. The course are also flexible, allowing students to study across a range of subjects while focusing on learning transferable skills such as critical thinking, ethical and moral reasoning and oral and written communication skills among others.
It offers programmes in the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, business, and education. The university does also offer a few graduate programmes in computer science, physics, brewing science and climate change.
Courses are primarily taught in English, making it one of three English-language universities in the province of Quebec.
The Bishop’s University sports teams are known as the Bishop’s Gaiters. The Gaiters comprise seven varsity teams and four club teams.
As for sports facilities at the college, there is a state-of-the-art sports and recreation centre, the Old Lennoxville Golf Club, cross-country ski trails and a number of health and wellness services.
