While Tere Daly’s opinion article on the value of courses such as football studies is heart-warming, are these really the types of courses that should be provided by universities (“A response to Nick Timothy: our football studies graduates are doing just fine”, 17 August, www.timeshighereducation.com)?
Surely this is the kind of subject that could be taught by local colleges, in conjunction with football clubs via apprenticeships and NVQs? Do these students need to be taught in a university and saddled with ?27,000 of debt?
Football clubs represent some of the most deprived areas of the UK, with the lowest participation in 中国A片 and further education. These football courses seem to be a perfect fit for projects involving interested parties at a local level.
