ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION. The University of Hertfordshire has organised an environmental education conference on January 11-12 focussing on: European Union facilitating programmes; curriculum initiatives; quality assessment; industrial links; collaborative research. A GLOBAL RESPONSIBILITY

A one-day conference, "Nutrition and Health of Children: a global responsibility" will be held on January 11. The conference has been organised jointly by the McCarrison Society and the University of North London and will take place in The Medical Society of London at 11 Chandos Street, W1 from 11am to 7.30pm. WORLD OF TEXTILES

A two-day intensive course covering all aspects of textiles will take place on February -28 at Aston Business School in Birmingham and on June 11-12 in Manchester. The course is suitable for professionals, teachers and students of textiles and will cover: yarn formation; weaving; knitting, dyeing and finishing' nonwovens; textile design; the textile market; information sources for textiles. MASS HIGHER EDUCATION

An international conference to be held on April 10-12 at Staffordshire University. Topics include: the demand for HE; gender and class; modularisation and semesterisation; research selectivity; management; quality; and the future of HE. BURNS BICENTENARY

To commemorate the bicentenary of Robert Burns's death, the University of St.Andrews in conjunction with the British Library Centre for the Book has organised a festival of nine talks on his work.
