Loose suspension

十二月 10, 2015

We would like to draw attention to the recent suspension of recruitment to person-centred counselling courses at the University of Strathclyde. The counselling unit is world-leading in its field and has an international reputation for its research clinic and training programmes. The suspension of courses will potentially cause irreparable damage to this reputation, as well as to students and staff.

We urge Strathclyde to lift the freeze on the search for replacements after the recent loss of two members of staff in the counselling unit. We call for the continuation of postgraduate counsellor education during the period of proposed development of undergraduate provision.

We believe that the move to course suspension will cause such significant damage to the standing of Strathclyde in the field of person-centred therapy training that the loss of both academic and professional contributions to the psychological therapies will be permanent. We urge Strathclyde to enter a process of consultation with all stakeholders and to reconsider the drastic action of course suspension.
