IMPERIAL COLLEGE OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND MEDICINE Julian Axe, former secretary and registrar at the Medical College of St Bartholomew's Hospital, has been appointed secretary; Alan Swanson, pro rector (educational quality) has been appointed deputy rector from January 1; Glyn Davies, department of aeronautics, has been appointed pro-rector (resources); Bill Wakeham, former head of chemical engineering and chemical technology, will become pro rector (research contracts) for three years; John Perkins, director of process systems engineering, will take over as head of chemical engineering and chemical technology.

UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW Michael Yuille, finance director at the University of Aberdeen, has been appointed director of finance from January 1997.

TRINITY COLLEGE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE Donald Markwell, fellow of Merton College Oxford, university medallist and Rhodes Scholar for Queensland, has been appointed warden of the college, succeeding Evan Burge in September 1997.

UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE John Bain, professor and head of the department of general practice, has been appointed by the Scottish Office chief scientist's office as national facilitator for primary care research in Scotland.

LIVERPOOL SCHOOL OF TROPICAL MEDICINE Michael Cook, former chief executive of the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh and adviser to the NHS in Scotland, has been appointed director of finance, development and administration.

UNIVERSITY OF YORK Andrew Macdonald, former director of estates and facilities at the University of Huddersfield, has been appointed director of facilities management, succeeding Roger McMeeking.

HEIST Val Hodson, freelance researcher, has been appointed head of market research services; Andrea Jepson, has been appointed research assistant.
