The Oxford Amnesty Lectures, which have raised more than ?80,000 for Amnesty International, began in 1992 and are one of the world's leading name-lecture series. Each series is published in book form. This year's series, supported by The THES, asks why human rights are abused and how societies can come to terms with a legacy of such abuse. Speakers still to come include lawyer Geoffrey Bindman, whorepresented Amnesty against General Pinochet, and Susan Sontag. The THES will carry abridged versions of several of the lectures.
