STEM needs more branches

九月 2, 2010

I have been enjoying the articles about STEM in your magazine. When I first saw the acronym, I interpreted it spontaneously as referring to science, technology, English and mathematics, until I thought again. This undoubtedly revealed to me the self-deception of my own professional bias and that of many other women (and men). But surely no one can seriously believe that the future economic growth of the country can depend on an education which excludes language, literature, and the other humanities.

Bring on the A-level study of science by all means, but don't neglect the rest!
