I was shocked to read your article on the proposed boycott of Taylor & Francis Group journals ("Firm chose haven, let's give it hell", News, 1 November). I had always found it to be an excellent publisher and recently received a royalty cheque (relating to a book published by Kogan Page) to prove it. I spent a few happy days thinking about the best thing to do with the money.
But now my feelings towards the publisher have cooled. I made a 10-mile return journey to the Post Office to collect an envelope with no postage and paid ?1.69 for the privilege of receiving a royalty statement from the firm. This has dented my income a little.
The amount of the cheque? Let me see...oh yes, here it is: 64p.
