Letter: Let's be clear about creationism 5

三月 29, 2002

The THES insists that schools should not get funding if they do not "teach modern science". This assumes that teaching creationism will harm science and produce bad citizens.

We need empirical research on how citizenship is affected by faith and education, especially among ethnic minorities, many of whom are the source of believers in divine creation. Anecdotal evidence suggests that most Muslims and virtually all Jews and evangelical Christians in Britain are quiet, law-abiding citizens making strong contributions to their local communities and to the nation. To imply otherwise, in the absence of evidence, is offensive and contrary to the principles of good scholarship.
