I question Tim Leunig's statistic that only 72 students in six of London's poorest boroughs got more than 24 points in their A levels (Soapbox, THES , June 22).
One of the six was Islington. But, as anyone familiar with the borough knows, its richest residents do not send their children to any of Islington's secondary schools. Rather, they deploy a series of subterfuges to make sure their children go to better schools in neighbouring boroughs. Islington sends plenty of school-leavers to elite universities, but not after an education in one of its schools.
