David Colquhoun has succeeded through scare tactics in getting the University of Buckingham Medical School to withdraw from the diploma in the study of integrated medicine (IM) (“It’s terminal for integrated medicine diploma”, 15 April).
Colquhoun operates in the name of “good science” and the “protection of patients”, but does not represent any patient group. He is a pharmacologist, not a physician.
His “bad science” argument is flawed: he cannot say that there is not enough good science to justify the practice of IM and then attempt to ban its study from UK universities.
His attempts to inhibit the academic study of IM are undemocratic, antisocial and stem from pure prejudice. If he were interested in improving the science of IM, he would have welcomed this initiative.
