Tokyo University of Information Sciences (TUIS) is a private university in the city of Chiba, Japan. It was founded in 1988, when it was the first private university to use the word "information" in its name.
The TUIS motto is "Break Through to the Future" and the educational philosophy is "contemporary practicality". The university’s teaching philosophy is based on “Independence and Cooperation”.
The university provides a faculty of informatics, faculty of nursing, and graduate school of informatics master course/doctor course.
The faculty of informatics consists of three departments: information systems, mathematical informatics, and social informatics.
The information systems department looks at new information fields, from basic technologies such as information security to games and entertainment, virtual systems and other cutting-edge technologies.
The mathematical informatics department explores methods of comprehending and solving environmental and social problems using data analysis and mathematical models.
The social informatics department explores topics related to society and information such as media studies, social sciences, and psychology.
The faculty of informatics also has several laboratories, including a system design laboratory, a game and application laboratory, an intelligent system laboratory and a sports science laboratory.
TUIS offers “Japanese I~IV,” “Comprehensive Japanese Seminar,” and other courses for foreign students to help improve their Japanese language skills.
The TUIS Scuolas offer classes to help students successfully pass various exams for qualifications and certifications. The Japanese/Communication Scuola was created for foreign students to help them improve their Japanese language and communication skills and to obtain Japanese-language qualifications while they are at the university.
